Flash; Done & Dusted

So here’s my final flash animation and some of the work that went into it. It’s been a very long and tiring process but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I used this topic as a way of teaching myself not only aspects of flash, but also photoshop and after effects! Which at the time everyone seemed to know a lot about! But I think I’ve managed to catch up a wee bit. So here’s some of the work I’ve been doing….

Oh and before I forget...the biggest thing I learned from the whole experience. The tiny, tiny, TINY details I put into the entire design...when put into flash, scaled up in down, changed to "hundreds" of colours/shades, edited in after effects and finally added a light to...are no longer visable...and were thus a pointless waste of my time, energy and sleep! So a new note to myself.

"Don't sweat the small things...because flash and after effects won't either"

POST-PRODUCTION

After finishing the animation side of things, I realised it wasn’t as polished as I’d like it to be. So I put it into After Effects and played about with a wee bit of lighting, vignette and fades. I’d also like to thank those people (you know who you are) for putting up with my various questions and the ever favoursome “yeah I want it to look like this…so how do I do it? hmm…tell me again?” Cheers dears.  Aye.

Flash Pre-Production

CHARACTER DESIGN

These are my initial ideas for the flash project. Although I like flash and think its a great program, when researching I found alot of the work around was pretty similar, so I've been experimenting alot with how I can use style to influence the final outcome.

I'm still playing around with things but the following pictures are where I'm currently at. I've been watching alot of horror films lately and I really like how dark they can be so I've tried to emulate this in my rough character designs (they still needed colouring up - which will be done soon and make them look alot better!)

Dead Silence (film) + Human Puppet + My flatmate =

Jack

This is a rough turn around of my character Jack (a ventriloquist puppet). He'll look alot better when I add some colour in (which I'll be doing soon). I want the whole project to look as
stylized as possible, so I started with really exentuating his clothes/appearance.....and then his head.....

...his eyes are actually missing from this picture, as I plan on importing my flatmates own eyes in place, as I think it'll bring more realism to the character.
So yeah. Here's the start to my first craic at flash!!

Here's the coloured up version of my character Jack. It's taken me ages to do as I used it as a way of introducing myself to photoshop and using a wacom tablet! Both I found difficult to get to grips with, but I realise how important it is versitile with the way I work so here it is...my first digitally drawn and coloured image. Minus the green background, I've tried to stick to a certain colour pallet for my character and hopefully the background  (depending on whether they'll be enough contrast)

This is the rough version of the character I'm going to use in flash. (I've still got alottttttt to do)

Finished colour up

Complete with my flatmates eyes...and soon to be teeth (I thought involving real life organic images within my character would enhance the over all surreal effect I hope to create for my final animation)

Flash Project

We've been given a brief to create a 40 second character animation in Flash. We are to source, record and edit a piece of sound to go around the theme "My life in Falmouth". I'm pretty excited for this project, and I've got a few ideas jotted down already. I have however slightly changed the "my life" to "a life" and used a friends experience in Falmouth as inspiration for what my work will be.
Today I recorded my sound piece and edited it in Soundbooth, I managed to get two people to read my characters lines as I'm not sure how I want the character to sound. I also played about with overlapping the two voice overs for the craic to see if anything interesting happend but sadly not. However I did learn some rather geeky effects.
So here's the two sound clips.
